WHAT IS THE MEANING OF DOCTRINE?

doctrine

Literally speaking, the meaning of doctrine is “to teach the substance of something”. It also means “something that is taught; a teaching or an instruction; or the ideals of a religion that are taught. In the context of Christianity, Doctrine refers to the body of God’s revealed word that is to be taught. Therefore, one has to be careful about the content of any doctrine (message) that circulates around. If we listen to the wrong doctrine and abide by them, our future may be in danger. We should always be ready to cross check with the word of God whatever is circulated in our environment. Like the people of Berea, “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so” (Acts 17:11). Our lives will be full of happiness if we obey God’s word (John 13:17).
