IS THE WILL OF GOD AN ALL CONSUMING FIRE?

job2

Is the will of God an all consuming fire? Knowing who God is, pleasing Him and doing His will should be our primary pursuit in life and an all-consuming desire. The rich young ruler could not do away with his riches- in fact, his riches took the place of God in his life therefore he walked away from Jesus when he was ask to sell his riches and distribute to the poor. His riches were inhibiting him from walking in the will of God (Luke 18:18-22). That is not to say that it is wrong to be rich as a child of God. The point is that, nothing should take the place of God in our lives if we want to walk in the will of God. Walking in His will is of primary importance and is able to generate the riches that we require to live comfortable lives on this earth. “seek ye first the kingdom of God… and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33).

God cannot lead us in an area of our lives unless we are willing and ready for Him to lead us in all areas of our lives. God is able to lead us in the specific areas when we allow Him to lead us in all areas of our lives through His word. This fulfils the first commandment- “And thou shall love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength” (Mark 12:30).

As we put God first, have fellowship with Him through His word and walk in His will for our lives, we must not forget to rest in His will. Let us be open to any new leadings of the Holy Spirit. We must be careful not to be too critical with ourselves in our quest to walk in His will. We should trust that God will take over and help us through the leadership of the Holy Spirit. “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13). The will of God should be an all consuming fire.
