WHEN EVERYTHING FAILS, STILL LOOK UP TO GOD!

And David enquired at the Lord, saying, shall I pursue after this troop? Shall I overtake them? And He answered him, Pursue: for thou shall surely overtake them, and without fail recover all (1 Samuel 30:8).

Have you ever come to a point in your life where you had to confess some statements like “the world is not fair”; “God does not exist otherwise this bad situation would not have happened to me”; “Life is unfair and not worth living”; “I wish I was not alive”……… For such statements to proceed from one’s mouth means a lot- that based on merit, you should have been moving forward in life. You may be a student; you prepared very well for your exam and did everything right but in the examination hall, you went blank and failed your examination. You may be a married couple but things are not going well in your marriage though you seem to be playing your roles very well. You may have secured a very good job based on merit but your boss is always not enthused by your output in the office and you are thinking of quitting and giving up in life. My advice to you is this- don’t give up yet! When everything fails, still look up to God.

Life’s challenges will continue to exist and surface usually at times that we least expect. The word of God is so powerful and cautions us that there is an evil day that the child of God can fall victim to (Ephesian 6:13) and we are admonished to put on the whole armour of God so that we can be able to withstand the evil day. Probably, the difficult situation you are going through now is the evil day. This is where you have to stand firm and emerge victorious. How do you stand strong and emerge victorious from these difficult circumstances?

From the scripture above, David and his team travelled to another city and when they returned on the third day, everything in their city of residence including their wives, children, relatives etc. was captured and taken away by their adversary. The normal reaction of most people to this situation would have been to quickly pursue the adversary and fight for recovery. David chose to enquire of the Lord on what to do. As children of God, we need to also exercise patience when we are facing unpleasant circumstances. To enquire of the Lord is to consult His word concerning the unpleasant circumstance(s) that you are facing. Our relationship with the Holy Spirit is also very important here because He explains God’s word to us. The Holy Spirit is ready for us always; He speaks and directs us on what to do- the challenge is how ready we are to listen to Him. Our responsibility is to develop a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit. After hearing from the Holy Spirit, you may want to confide in your trusted spiritual leader for confirmation or otherwise. You can only take the next step after hearing from the Holy Spirit on what to do. Life is much easier when we follow the leadership of the Holy Spirit- this is not a mystery at all! When everything fails, still look up to God.
