THE WILL OF GOD IS PERSONAL

The good book has much information on the will of God which applies to everybody whilst some are application to us personally. For instance, it is the will of God for every person on earth to be saved and have everlasting life. “Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish” (Matthew 18:14). It is the Father’s will that the Holy Spirit indwells all His children and provide unblemished leadership (John 14:16-18). It is the will of God for us to always give thanks to Him irrespective of what we go through. “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you” (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

In the mist of the general or basic will of God dwells the personal or specific will of God. A classic example to show that the will of God is personal is in Acts 16 where the Holy Spirit did not allow Paul to go and preach in Asia and Bithynia at a particular point in time. As has already been stated in an earlier article, the personal will of God becomes clear when we are already obeying the basic will of God enshrined in the bible.

It is important to note that as children of God, we should not make ‘symbols’ out of our personal experiences with the Holy Spirit. You may have been led by the Holy Spirit to go through a process that resulted in some blessings from God. Though that may be great to share with people in Christendom, your process should not become the way forward for everybody who wants to get the kind of blessings you received. A principle should not be made out of a personal experience with the Holy Ghost. We should allow God to be original with His children as much as possible. The Holy Spirit is a great personality who can lead people to achieve results through His own leadership. If it happens that the Holy Spirit endorses your experience for another person, that is fine and has to be obeyed but a principle should not be made out of an experience.

The emphasis should be on teaching people to know the details of the basics of the will of God and how to fellowship with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit has so much to teach individuals and provide the required leadership to every person in Christendom. “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you” (John 14:26). Finally, to reiterate, the will of God is personal!
