The specific instructions included colours of materials to be used for the temple (Exodus 25:1-9). The colour purple signifies royalty and used mostly by kings. In demonstrations, one will usually see red bands or dresses to signify danger and the need for authorities concerned to address the grievances of the group doing the demonstration.

The Levites performed several functions including sacrificing of animals to cleanse sinners. In the New Testament, two angels dressed in white, were sitting on the sepulcher of Jesus (John 20:12). On the mount of transfiguration, the face of Jesus shined as the sun and his raiment was white as light (Matthew 17:2).
