Cocoa farm sanitation is the removal of unwanted elements from the farm. Unwanted elements include stagnant water, weeds, piled Cocoa husks, Chupons, Moss, Epiphytes (Mistletoes), dead branches, unwanted pods. Removing these unwanted elements from the farm regularly reduces the incidence of pests and diseases because some of these elements serve as hosts.

Pruning in Cocoa is an important husbandry practice. Cocoa as a tree crop produces many leaves and branches to enable it compete with other trees, shrubs and herbs. The more leaves and branches produced by a Cocoa tree, the less the amount of nutrients available for the production of pods and finally the number of matured pods which will be harvested.
