OUR ABILITIES AND THE WILL OF GOD

ability

As children of God, it is important for us to know our God given abilities and to constantly evaluate these abilities for good works. In fact God’s will for our lives closely relate to our God-given abilities therefore the discussion on our abilities and the will of God. “I wish that all men were as I am. But each man has his own gift from God, one has this gift, another has that” (1 Corinthians 7:7). Yielding our lives to the revealed truth enables us to know our abilities in Christ and with His grace, we are able to develop these abilities for the progress of ourselves, church and the world.

One of the ways to identify our abilities is to try and do new things. Sometimes, we have to leave our comfort zones and dare to do some new things and we are likely to identify our God-given abilities.

Though our God-given abilities are important relative to the will of God, we have to be open to the fact that God can still use us irrespective of our inabilities. Moses had inabilities but God chose him and gave him the strength to lead the people of Israel from Egypt. “and Moses said unto the Lord, ….I am not eloquent … but I am slow of speech….” (Exodus 4:10-14). David defeated Goliath of Gath not because of his military strength-he was no match for Goliath. “God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty “(1 Corinthians 1:27). In this instance, God usually makes it clear that He will give us the ability to do that which He wants done. Solomon initially did not have the gift of wisdom but the desire for it was there. When he expressed this desire, God granted it and now, Solomon is seen as one the wisest kings ever lived on earth.

To become a child of God is a privilege and not a compulsion. It is a great privilege because even in our inabilities God is able to empower us to do the supernatural. The presence of the Holy Spirit in every child of God empowers us to fulfil God’s will on earth. Our abilities and the will of God cannot, therefore, be overemphasized. If you think that you have already ‘arrived’ and being celebrated everywhere without being born again, it is about time to realise that you can even go further in life in achieving greater exploits when you become born again. The choice is yours.
