The nature of the Almighty God:

The word ‘nature’ has several meanings but for our topic, it basically means the descriptions or basic definitions of an entity. The nature of the Almighty God therefore means the descriptions or basic definitions of the being of the Lord. The Bible gives four descriptions about the nature of the Almighty God and this article will explore these.

The first nature of the Almighty God is that, He is Spirit (John 4:24). This mean, He has no flesh and bones ( Luke 24:39). God is invisible (Deuteronomy 4:15-19; Exodus 33:20; John 1:18; Romans 1:20; Colossians 1:15). ‘No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the father He had declared Him’ (John 1:18). When Moses wanted to see the glory of the Lord, the Lord told him ‘…thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live’ (Exodus 33:20). God is a person. Being Spirit does not mean that God is an impersonal force. He has personality made up of self-determination, self-consciousness, will, intelligence and feeling (John 4:20-24; Genesis 1:2; 2 Corinthians 3:17).

God is Light (1 John 1:5). This refers to the beauty or glory of the Lord. God dwells in a kind of light that man has not seen or has the ability to see (1 Timothy 6:15-16). He does not only dwell in a kind of light but He is light. As children of God, He has given us the privilege to be light in this world. ‘Ye are the light of the world….’ (Matthew 5:14).

God is Love (1 John 4:17). God has love and is love (John 3:16). Love is composed of goodness, grace, mercy and generosity of the Lord towards all elements He has created. As children of God, we also possess the element of love because it is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5). A Christian must demonstrate the love of God to everybody irrespective of the character of the person. There is no judgement against love!

The last nature of the Almighty God is that, He is a consuming fire (Hebrews 12:29). This describes the holiness of God. Fire as used to describe God in the scriptures refers to His holiness and absolute righteousness. God judges against sin because of the holiness of His nature. This is the reason why God desires that every man is saved by accepting Jesus as savior.

In conclusion, the Bible says that ‘…as He is, so are we in this world’ (1 John 4:17). ‘… ye are gods and all of you are children of the most High (Psalm 82:6). God has deposited ‘some’ of His nature in us to live a glorious and successful life on this earth. To walk in this reality depends on knowledge of His word. Believe this reality, obey His word and you will surely walk in this reality.
